The North Kohala district sits on the very northern end of the Big Island. It is bordered by South Kohala on one side, and by the deep finger valleys which separate North Kohala from Hamakua and Waipio Valley.

Temperatures on the windward side of North Kohala are 5 to 10 degrees cooler, depending on elevation, than they are in Kona.
